CLASSES

BEGINNERS and GENTLE CLASSES
These classes are only 1 hour or 75 minutes long. I guide you through a gentle exploration of asana (posture), with a focus on alignment to aid understanding and achieving the foundations of yoga, along with pranayama (breathwork) and yoga nidra (meditation/relaxation) to offer you an introduction to Hatha Yoga. You do not have to be a beginner to join these classes; some people may have practiced yoga for some time, yet prefer the shorter duration and gentler pace than that of an Open Class.

OPEN HATHA CLASSES
These classes are 1.5 hour long. Again, asana, pranayama and yoga nidra form the foundation of the practice. My style is flow; a full warm up is achieved before we delve into vinyasa, then take our asana deeper, usually with an anatomical focus. Your awareness will always be at the heart of your practice.

YOUTH YOGA
This class is specifically for children and young people aged 11+. We engage in a gentle asana practice, where an element of fun is paramount! We then simmer down with an age appropriate guided meditation.
Not all children enjoy competitive sports; a reason yoga is so valuable is that it is inclusive, there are no levels of ability, no winning or even being better than someone else. I encourage young people to be who they are, focussing on their own 'self'.
Within our Youth Yoga practice we:
* Develop body awareness
* Learn how to use our bodies in a healthy way
* Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement
* Build concentration
* Increase confidence and positive self-image
* Feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group
* Promote inclusivity
* Have an alternative to tuning out through constant attachment to electronic
devices.

PRIVATE and 1-1 Classes
Subject to availability, these are offered as one-to-one, or up to 3 people. These classes may benefit those who may have a specific requirement, be it physical or emotional, and more a focussed practice may be achieved.

FOR LIFE YOGA and PREGNANCY YOGA with Hema Patel
FOR LIFE YOGA
For Life Yoga is specifically designed for older Yogins who are still committed to moving and staying strong through their Yoga. Added to the Yoga you are familiar with in your current class, Hema will take you through some chair moves ~ called the Otago Exercise Programme ~ designed specifically to prevent falls. Relaxation and meditation will still remain part of the Yoga work of a class. Hema is very much aware of the busy lives everyone leads therefore she introduces techniques that can be taken away from the class into the daily lives of the students so that the yoga experience can continue. Hema has been teaching older and vulnerable students for some time and enjoys creating a positive experience for all those who attend.
Pregnancy is a great opportunity to let yourself relax and turn your attention inwards. Yoga can facilitate this and help prepare the body and the mind for labour and birth.
Come and join these specially designed yoga classes for mum-to-be. You will be taken through a range of yoga asanas, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to help you during the creation of a new life within you.

PILATES
Pilates classes are held in the studio on Friday mornings.
Teacher Naomi Baker takes this class from 10:00 - 11:00.
"As a passionate teacher of Classical Pilates practice I've both seen and experienced the power of this almost 100 year old exercise method, to change the human body and return it to natural and healthy movement. I have been practicing Pilates for more than a decade and initially qualified to teach three years ago. Since then I have continued to develop my understanding of the work and how best to apply it for the benefit of my clients through advanced training with some of the most experienced second generation teachers in the world. Regular Pilates practice is an incredible tool for overcoming persistent or niggling pains or injuries and living a long, full and active life. These are the benefits I want for my clients and am dedicated to helping them achieve them, whether through regular mat classes or personal training sessions using the suite of traditional Pilates equipment. In my Classical mat classes we have a particular focus on the rhythm and flow of the exercises to help build endurance as well as muscular strength and flexibility. You will leave my classes feeling taller, leaner and more energised than you arrived."
