ABOUT ME...

I have been practising Yoga for 23+ years, after having first approached it as a means of relaxation and de-stress!

It had such a profound impact on every aspect of my life, and I very soon became aware that it was a fundamental part of my well-being. Such was my enthusiasm, I wanted to offer others the transformative benefits of Yoga, and was thereby inspired to study with The Traditional Yoga Association®.  It was pranayama (breathwork) that had the initial impact upon me, mentally and physically; I valued its immense power and importance, not just on my mat, but in daily life.

I duly qualified under the wing and wisdom of Swami Ambikananda at the Traditional Yoga Association®, in 2006. I have been teaching locally in and around Reading, and also in Newbury, ever since.  In October 2018 I finally fulfilled a long-held desire to open my own studio.  This is located west of Reading, Berkshire.  On the edge of a working farm, its location is naturally peaceful and tranquil, despite being only a short drive from the A4 and M4, and therefore easily accessible.

As a devoted member of the Traditional Yoga Association, I am proud to be a senior teacher.  I am also on the examining board for new teachers coming through the examination process, and as of 2024, I am leading te Foundation and Teacher Training Courses on behalf of the TYA.  I head up the TYA’s Workshop Development Group, and have, in collaboration with Simon Wightwick (Soft Tissue Therapist) delivered workshops to fellow Yoga Teachers.

To support my qualification in teaching Children and Young People, I also hold the following certificates:
* Youth Yoga and Mindlfulness Teacher Training
* ADHD and Autism Advanced Level (Childrens Homes)
* Autism Spectrum Disorder (Childrens Homes)
* First Aid Appointed Person
* Team Teach qualified to Level 2 (12 hour) standard

I take pride in being a Traditional Hatha Yoga Teacher. I welcome into my classes people of all ages and abilities; I appreciate that everybody’s physiology is different, and I encourage my students to explore their own limitations at their own pace. Awareness is the essence of my teaching; drawing asana, pranayama and yoga nidra into our practice.

My aim is for my students to benefit from their yoga practice as I do; to build strength, flexibility and endurance, whilst rejuvenating, uplifting and energising, yet ultimately calming and balancing the mind.  I am naturally vivacious and energetic, with a sunny disposition and good sense of humour - and this is evident in my classes!  I aim for those who attend my classes to feel safe and have fun, and leave feeling centred and whole.

COVENTRY RESEARCH PROJECT
The Traditional Yoga Association (TYA) was approached by University of Coventry Health Life Sciences department for advice on a research project which is part of a much larger project. Swami Ambikananda of the TYA created two model classes for them which were passed by the Coventry University Ethics Board as suitable for the project and reaching the required standard. On the basis of this she and I were invited to participate in the research programme and did so in the name of the Traditional Yoga Association through 2019.

I have been blessed to teach at the World Yoga Festival each year since 2018, and will do so again in 2024.
